Neuropathy is the dominant cause of the diabetic foot ulcer and the archetypal silent complication. The patient with tingling, painful feet demands attention, but it is often the quiet, insensate foot that ulcerates first. Detection exists to correct that intuition, replacing a subjective sense of risk with a test-based verdict delivered on a schedule.
The module is organised around three questions for every at-risk foot: is there neuropathy, how bad is it, and is it progressing? It maps each bedside test to the fibre class it examines, large or small, and teaches the 10 g monofilament, Ipswich touch test, tuning fork and vibration perception threshold, with their limits. It covers composite screening, small-fibre and autonomic testing including electrochemical skin conductance, when nerve conduction studies or other investigations are justified, and the atypical features that call for neurology referral.
Content is tiered at Foundation, Core and Advanced level, with two clinical algorithms and case vignettes. You receive the Teaching Document, the Evidence Base, the slide deck, a narrated video and an audio overview.
