No general legal duty to tell a patient that AI was used in their care has been identified in any instrument surveyed for this unit anywhere in the United Kingdom, and the National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare said so in September 2026. What exists instead are narrower obligations.
It names the four sources of an actual obligation: your regulator's standards on information for decisions, regulatory guidance on innovative technology, data protection transparency, and specific EU AI Act disclosure duties where the Act reaches you. It shows how to decide whether AI belongs in a system-level notice, a sentence at the start of the consultation or a full discussion, and how to explain a tool and its limits in the patient's language. It also covers how to apply the rules on recording and ambient scribes, taking the conservative course where positions conflict, and how to respond and record when a patient objects. It maps to the HEE AI and Digital Healthcare Technologies Capability Framework (2023). Veritant is education, not legal advice.
