Prevention is the highest-value activity in diabetic foot care: the cheapest, safest ulcer is the one that never forms. A healed ulcer is in remission, not cured. Roughly 40% recur within a year and about 65% within five years, because the neuropathy, deformity and scarred high-pressure point that caused the first ulcer are still there. The remission model most often fails at the hand-off from the wound team to the prevention team.
The module teaches how to assign an IWGDF risk category and matching screening interval, and how to deliver the five cornerstones as one bundle: identifying the at-risk foot, regular inspection, education, appropriate footwear that is actually worn, and treating pre-ulcerative lesions. It covers home skin-temperature monitoring with a written hotspot action plan, callus debridement, flexor tenotomy for the deforming toe, safe return to activity, and a structured remission programme. Advanced content appraises the GRADE evidence, where only temperature monitoring and pressure-optimised footwear reach moderate certainty.
Content is tiered at Foundation, Core and Advanced level, with algorithms for primary prevention and remission and case vignettes. You receive the Teaching Document, the Evidence Base, the slide deck, a narrated video and an audio overview.
