Only about 30 to 40% of diabetic foot ulcers have healed at 12 weeks in real-world data. A chronic ulcer is not simply slow: it has failed to progress through repair and is usually locked in inflammation. Teams that understand why are better placed to correct the cause before blaming the wound bed or the dressing, and to recognise a stalled wound early.
The module teaches haemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodelling in plain terms, then the derangements that arrest the diabetic wound: the failed M1 to M2 macrophage switch, MMP and TIMP imbalance, fibroblast senescence, impaired angiogenesis, advanced glycation end-products and biofilm. It applies TIMERS (tissue, infection or inflammation, moisture, edge, repair or regeneration, social factors) as six inspectable checkpoints, and uses the four-week percentage area reduction as a trigger to escalate. It marks where its principles hand on to debridement, offloading, infection and perfusion care.
Content is tiered at Foundation, Core and Advanced level, with algorithms for the new and the stalled wound and case vignettes. You receive the Teaching Document, the Evidence Base, the slide deck, a narrated video and an audio overview.
