Podiatrist, The Foot in Diabetes
Most modules teach an intervention. This one teaches the service that gets those interventions to the patient in time. The diabetic foot is destroyed by neuropathy, ischaemia and infection acting together, and a limb is often lost not to any one of them but to the delay created when each is managed by a different team in a different queue.
The module explains toe-and-flow as a function-based partnership of the tissue axis and the perfusion axis, the nuclear, captain and ancillary team structure, and what each service tier must be able to do. It sets out a staged build towards a centre of excellence, a triage and referral pathway, and the avoided-cost commissioning case, including the split-budget problem. It covers leadership across departmental silos, process, intermediate and hard outcome measures, and honest framing of observational evidence. C01 covers the clinician's pathway within a team; D02 is for those who build, fund and lead one.
Content is tiered at Foundation, Core and Advanced level, with two algorithms and three case vignettes. You receive the Teaching Document, the Evidence Base, the slide deck, a narrated video and an audio overview.
