Written by Rob Menzies MSc FFPM RCPS (Glasg)
Podiatrist, The Foot in Diabetes
The decisions clinicians make every day, to debride, to offload one way or another, to try an advanced wound product, to refer for revascularisation, rest on evidence that is mostly conditional and low-certainty when formally graded. Take every glossy meta-analysis at face value and you chase products; dismiss everything labelled low-certainty and you are paralysed. The skill this module builds is calibrated interpretation.
It teaches the governance difference between research, audit, quality improvement and service evaluation, and why calling research an audit is a breach. It covers the evidence hierarchy as a ceiling rather than an answer, surrogate versus patient-important outcomes, RoB 2, ROBINS-I, AMSTAR-2 and CASP, and how to interrogate heterogeneity, confounding, applicability and funding. Advanced content covers turning a conditional, low-certainty recommendation into an individual decision, disciplined PDSA cycles, benchmarking with case-mix adjustment, and choosing the reporting guideline before any data are collected.
Content is tiered at Foundation, Core and Advanced level, with two algorithms and three case vignettes. You receive the Teaching Document, the Evidence Base, the slide deck, a narrated video and an audio overview.
