Wound healing is metabolically expensive, and a person with diabetes, an open wound and reduced mobility often lives with exactly the deficits that make healing hardest. Malnutrition hides at normal and above-normal weight, and obesity and malnutrition routinely coexist. This module treats nutrition as a foundation equal to perfusion, infection control and offloading, not an adjunct tried once they have failed.
It teaches MUST and MNA-SF as screening rather than diagnosis, GLIM and its sensitivity limits, and why an albumin just above 35 g/L may not be reassuring in a stalled wound, presented as one emerging study rather than a guideline cut-off. It covers a protein target of about 1.25 to 1.5 g/kg/day, the more consistent evidence for enriched multi-component supplements over single nutrients, vitamin D, sarcopenia as a prognostic signal, the obesity paradox as selection bias, and why nutritional optimisation runs alongside, never instead of, urgent surgery.
Content is tiered at Foundation, Core and Advanced level, with two algorithms and three case vignettes. You receive the Teaching Document, the Evidence Base, the slide deck, a narrated video and an audio overview.
