Podiatrist, The Foot in Diabetes
A high-risk patient may be seen every few weeks, and between visits the foot is unwatched. Because neuropathy removes pain, the first thing many patients notice is a finished ulcer rather than the inflammation before it. Remote monitoring aims to fill that gap, but for most modalities feasibility, effectiveness and cost saving are still to be shown.
The module separates telehealth, remote patient monitoring, wearables and AI, then sets out the evidence for each. Home skin-temperature monitoring has moderate-certainty evidence; the DIATEMP trial shows its benefit depended on patients acting on a hot spot, and its cost-effectiveness is at best neutral. Smart insoles, smart socks and wearables are presented as promising but not shown to reduce ulcers, digital photography as a valid adjunct to in-person review, and AI accuracy figures as mostly internal validation. It closes with equity, governance and a closed-loop response.
Content is tiered at Foundation, Core and Advanced level, with two algorithms and three case vignettes. You receive the Teaching Document, the Evidence Base, the slide deck, a narrated video and an audio overview.

A test result changes a probability. It rarely settles a diagnosis, and a normal white cell count never excludes infection.
