Artificial intelligence, in the EU law that now defines it, is software that infers from its input how to produce outputs such as predictions, content or recommendations. Not every healthcare tool is narrow any more, and a model can learn things you would not want it to use. So read the evidence first.
It teaches the definitions the law and official bodies use, and what does not count as AI, what a general-purpose model changes for the clinician and the language tools in everyday practice. It shows how to read sensitivity, precision, recall, the F1 score, the area under the curve and calibration, and why the prevalence in your own setting changes what they mean. It covers appraising a study against current reporting standards, what explainability can and cannot do, why an explanation can increase trust in a wrong answer, and who owns a model built with clinical data or expertise. It maps to the HEE AI and Digital Healthcare Technologies Capability Framework (2023). Veritant is education, not legal advice.
